At Vapekit, we’ve noticed that the Aspire brand enjoys consistent popularity among ex-smokers – and among newer vapers, the Aspire PockeX is one of the most popular e-cigarettes on the market. We believe that’s because Aspire devices are intuitive and straightforward. Aspire tanks also have a well-earned reputation for great flavour reproduction – and flavour is often extremely important for people who have just quit smoking. The Aspire PockeX combines Aspire reliability and flavour in a single package that’s small, convenient and easy to use. It’s the best e-cigarette for beginners and a perfect upgrade for anyone currently using a small “cigalike” with disposable cartridges.

Aspire PockeX: Specs and What’s Included

aspire pockex kit

The Aspire PockeX is an “all-in-one” e-cigarette, which means that it’s a device with a fixed, permanent battery and tank. It’s everything you need to get started with vaping in a single package – just add e-liquid. Charge the device with a USB cable, fill the tank and you’re ready to go.

One aspect of the Aspire PockeX that makes it a perfect choice for new vapers is that it is designed for mouth-to-lung inhaling. When you use the device, in other words, you’ll draw the vapour into your mouth before inhaling it. That’s an important feature if you’re still smoking or have recently quit because you also smoke a cigarette by inhaling from the mouth to the lungs. Because many long-term e-cigarette users prefer inhaling the vapour directly into their lungs, e-cigarettes designed for mouth-to-lung inhaling are becoming more difficult to find. The PockeX is an exception to that trend.

Here’s what the Aspire PockeX kit includes:

Getting Started With the Aspire PockeX

Charging the Battery

You can expect your device to arrive with a partial battery charge. Although you can use the PockeX while charging it, we recommend charging the battery fully before using the device for the first time. While the battery charges, you can fill the tank and familiarize yourself with the instruction manual. Charge the Aspire PockeX by connecting it to one of your computer’s USB ports using the included cable.

The Aspire PockeX has a 1,500 mAh internal battery. The relatively low battery capacity of this device compared to other sub-ohm vape pens helps to keep the PockeX small and sleek. However, it also means that you should expect no more than about two hours of constant vaping on a full battery charge. Connecting the device to a USB port allows you to keep vaping while the battery charges. The ability to vape while charging is also useful because you may notice that the device’s vapour production decreases slightly as you drain the battery.

Filling and Maintaining the Tank

One of the greatest features of the Aspire PockeX is how easy it is to fill the tank. Simply unscrew the device’s top cap to expose the e-liquid reservoir. When you fill the tank for the first time, you’ll also want to prime the cotton wick. Do that by unscrewing the atomizer coil and wetting the exposed cotton with e-liquid. Replace the coil and fill the tank until the level of e-liquid matches the line on the side of the tank. Be careful not to overfill as overfilling could cause e-liquid to spill out when you replace the tank’s top cap. After filling the tank, don’t use the device for a few minutes; you could burn the cotton wick if you don’t give it time to saturate fully.

Periodically, you’ll need to replace the coil in your Aspire PockeX. Do so by repeating the instructions above. You’ll find Aspire PockeX coils in our online store. When you notice that the device doesn’t seem to produce as much vapour on a full battery charge as it once did, it’s time for a new coil. You’ll also need to replace the coil if the flavour quality begins to suffer due to residue or burned cotton. Depending on how you vape, you can expect your coils to last about a week. Using unsweetened e-liquids and waiting several seconds between each puff will prolong coil life.

Using the Aspire PockeX

Once you’ve charged the battery and filled the tank, the PockeX is ready to use. Press the fire button five times quickly to unlock the device. The indicator light flashes three times. You are now ready to vape. While holding the fire button, puff on the Aspire PockeX as if it were a cigarette. After you complete the puff, release the fire button. When the battery has a strong charge, the indicator light glows blue. When the light turns red, the battery is nearly dead. As you vape, pay close attention to the window on the side of the tank. The e-liquid in the tank should always cover the exposed cotton of the atomizer coil. If the level of e-liquid is below the cotton, the wick could go dry and burn.

How Does the Aspire PockeX Perform?

Devices intended for mouth-to-lung inhaling are rarities in the vaping industry, and sub-ohm mouth-to-lung devices are rarer still. That makes the Aspire PockeX unique as a device that’s intended for beginners but optimized for the best possible vapour production. Since this is a very small and light device that’s easy to carry in any pocket, it’s understandable that there would be a bit of a compromise in battery life. If your employer allows you to vape at your desk, you shouldn’t expect the PockeX to last through an entire work day. In fairness, though, few vaping devices can last through a full work day – and the small size of this device means that you’ll have plenty of extra room in your pocket for a USB cable.

Does the Aspire PockeX Have Any Drawbacks?

So far, we’ve spent most of this review focusing on the positive aspects of the Aspire PockeX – but no vaping device is perfect for everyone. Owing to its nature as an all-in-one vaping device, the Aspire PockeX doesn’t give you quite the same level of flexibility that a more advanced vaping device might. The PockeX doesn’t, for example, allow you to use a different tank because the included tank is a permanent part of the device. The PockeX also doesn’t give you variable wattage settings to fine-tune the vapour temperature. You can, however, choose between two atomizer coils. Use the 0.6-ohm coil for warmer vapour or use the 1.2-ohm coil for cooler vapour.

We would also have liked to see an airflow adjustment collar on the Aspire PockeX. While the default airflow setting is great for giving mouth-to-lung vapers the air resistance they want without making direct-to-lung vaping entirely impossible, it would be nice if the device allowed you to dial in the exact air resistance you wanted.

What the PockeX gives you for the money is far more than what you would expect from virtually any other e-cigarette in the same price range. If you’re already an experienced vaper and are looking for something that offers a bit more flexibility, though, you might prefer one of the devices in our selection of advanced vaping mods.

Aspire PockeX Review: The Bottom Line

aspire pockex colours

The Aspire PockeX has what we believe is the ideal set of features for less experienced vapers and smokers who haven’t made the switch to vaping yet. Some months or years down the road, you may crave additional features and decide that the time is right to buy a more flexible advanced mod. Until then, though, you’ll love the simplicity and convenience of this device. Although there are plenty of simple and user-friendly vape pens on the market, most of them don’t feature sub-ohm vapour production – and none but the PockeX carry the respected Aspire brand name.

The Aspire PockeX is the best e-cigarette for beginners because it features the simple filling, operation and maintenance that are so important when you first make the switch from smoking to vaping. Since it’s an e-cigarette that uses a tank rather than disposable cartridges, it gives you the freedom to use any e-liquid on the market rather than one manufacturer’s small range of flavours. Most importantly, the fact that the Aspire PockeX uses sub-ohm atomizer coils means that it has the vapour production necessary to keep you satisfied during the crucial early stage after you’ve just given up smoking. Although you may eventually decide that you’d like a device with a little more freedom for customization, it could be months or years before that happens.
