UK VAPING TRENDS

What are the latest vaping trends in the UK?

There's no doubt that the vaping landscape has changed significantly in recent years. Many of the trends we have seen and those that are currently evolving have been driven by new regulations and taxation in the UK.

So, following the ban on disposables and with the Vaping Products Duty (VPD) looming, what's hot and what's not?

Pod Kits Rule

Pod kits were hitting the spot with UK vapers long before the ban on disposables. But since the ban, the popularity of pod kits has accelerated. Vapers who favoured disposables have sought out alternatives that offer similar levels of convenience and so it is no surprise that big puff vapes and kits with prefilled pods are currently top of the pops.

Pod kits with refillable pods and built-in coils are also finding favour with many vapers. These devices offer a good compromise as vapers benefit a relatively hassle-free experience and a cheaper one as refilling wih e-liquid is less expensive than investing in prefilled pods.

E-Liquid Stockpiling

When the VPD is applied to e-liquids and prefilled pods in October 2026, the cost of juice will soar. Vaping will remain far cheaper than smoking but this doesn't mean that vapers are looking forward to the additional expense.

One way around the new tax is to stock up on e-liquids before October and that is exactly what many vapers are doing. It's a case of spending more now to avoid splashing out a lot more after 1 October. Of course, this trend could see retailers struggling to keep up with demand. Stockpiling is a bus that you might want to jump on sooner rather than later.

Performance Over Power

Wattage has ceased to be a major attraction for vapers when choosing their devices. They are prioritising consistent draws, precision airflow and battery efficiency over oomph.

The latest pod kits deliver impresisve performance but boast increasigly compact forms. The shift in wish lists is reflected in popular searches online which include compact vape kits and USB-C vape devices.

Aspire Pixos, and Vaporesso XROS 5 kits are flying off the shelves! Both provide impressive performance that rivals larger, more expensive choices while also giving users valuable information.

Pragmatism and practicality are rapidly replacing gimmicks as priorities when chooosing devices. Rather than seeking out colourful screens and fancy LED lights, vapers are searching for puff counters, coil monitoring and battery life optimisation. Smart vapes are finding more and more fans as vapers are increasingly valuing longevity, consitency and discretion.

Who's Vaping in the UK?

According to the latest figures from Smoking in England, the number of vapers across the country has continued to rise. Vaping is most prevalent amongst 16-34-year olds and least prevalent amongst those who are over 65. less than 4% of vapers were never smokers.

The vast majoirty of vapers choose e-liquids containing nicotine and the most popular nicotine strength is 20mg.

Nicotine Pouches

OK, nicotine pouches are not vapes but they are worthy of mention as they are nicotine delivery systems. These slim, flavoured pouches simply slip under the lips and dissolve over time, releasing nicotine into the bloodstream. They are rising in popularity and may well be the next big thing as vapers look for alternatives when the increases in taxation start to bite.

What's next in the UK?

All indications suggest that vapers are becoming more discerning and their choices more considered. Cost will become a bigger factor from October.

You can expect to to see fewer new devices and e-liquid collections come to market than has been the case in previous years as manufacturers are increasingly priotising quality over quantity. Their approach now seems to be to evolve one great device rather than 10 different ones. New kits will be dominated by pod systems. Refillable devices will be distinguished by their efficiency, longevity and ability to provide information rather than their complexity.

As for e-liquids, we feel that flavours will likely become more refined, crisper and less sweet. It remains to be seen whether the VPD results in more vapers turning to budget options or whether all juices will feel so expensive that vapers prioritise premium quality or favourite flavours.
