MOUTH TO LUNG VS DIRECT TO LUNG VAPING: WHAT ARE THE TWO STYLES OF VAPING?

Vaping Styles

Every vaper is an individual with their own likes and dislikes. For this reason, vapers are seeking a variety of vaping experiences.

To meet their needs, manufacturers have created a diverse devices.

The choices on offer have necessitated the estblishment of new ways to describe what the various products are and what they do. New terminology has emerged including "mouth-to-lung" (MTL) and "direct-to-lung" (DTL).

MTL and DTL are the monickers that have emerged to describe two very different vaping styles.

But what are these styles and what are their benefits?

In short, which should you choose?

What is mouth-to-lung vaping, and what are the benefits?

Mouth-to-lung is the inhaling style that you probably use if you are a recent convert from smoking to vaping. It's the way that cigarette smoke is inhaled - drawing vapour into your mouth first and then drawing it into your lungs.

You will find that an important benefit of this method is that it feels familar if you are a reformed smoker. MTL vaping also delivers a pleasing throat hit.

New vapers invariably favour set-ups that mimic the throat hit delivered when smoking.

To enjoy MTL vaping you need a suitable device which is one that features, or is compatible with, higher resistance coils and that is capable only of low outputs (wattage). Most vapes fall into this category. Your choices will include both pod systems and tank kits.

What is direct-to-lung vaping, and what are the benefits?

If you're new to vaping, you might be wondering why anyone would wish to use a different inhaling style if the MTL style most closely resembles smoking .

Some vapers do find that their priorities change after they've been vaping for a while. Once you've transitioned fully from smoking to vaping, you may eventually feel that throat hits are less important than they once were.

You may arrive at the point when flavour or clouds have become your priority. That's when you should consider DTL vaping.

When DTL vaping you inhale the vapour directly into your lungs in a single deep breath rather than drawing the vapour into your mouth before inhaling it.

If you have ever tried inhaling the vapour from your current e-cigarette directly into your lungs, you probably found the experience unpleasant and might have even coughed. That's because the nicotine strength of your e-liquid is too high for DTL vaping.

For the MTL inhaling style, it's common to use high-nicotine e-liquid with strengths as high as 18-20 mg/ml. For DTL vaping, though, the most popular nicotine strength is just 3 mg/ml. Satisfaction remains quaranteed as DTL vaping demands the use of more powerful outputs and lower resistance coils resulting in enahnced vapour production. The bigger the clouds, the more nicotine is delivered.

Significant clouds also ensure bolder flavour. In addition, advanced devices for DTL vaping often feature operating modes that enable you to adjust your settings. By adjusting outputs or the temperature that coils reach, you can improve flavour or cloud production. In other words, you can precisely tailor your experince.

What are the downsides of DTL vaping?

There are always dowbsides, aren't there? With DTL vaping the primary issue you will encounter is cost. Low resistance coils vaporize more e-liquid every time you fire your device and so you will vape your way through a larger volume of juice.

In addition, advanced devices are more expensive than simple MTL vape pens and pod systems.

If you are looking to conserve costs, DTL vaping is not the way to go.

What is restricted direct-to-lung (RDTL) vaping?

It is possible to strike a balance between MTL and DTL vaping. Many vapers now favour a vaping style that provides enhanced flavour but that does not completely eliminate throat hits. That style is RDTL.

RDTL vaping is the half way house and the domain of the latest refillable pod systems. These devices are less powerful than advanced mod kits but offer higher outputs than basic vape pens together with lower resistance coils. Slightly restrictive airflow slows the inhalation just a bit while still allowing you to inhale the vapour directly into your lungs.

Many devices that enable RDTL vaping are also compatible with MTL coils, giving you choices and allowing you to try RDTL inhales without requiring a new vape.

If you are unsure as to which vaping style might best suit your needs, invest in a device compatible with a range of coils and vaping styles. You can then explore your options by switching coils to find your personal sweet spot.
