How To Get Bigger Clouds When Vaping

There's a certain sequence of events that you will have probably experienced during your transition from smoking to vaping. At first, you may have simply felt happy that switching to vaping had made it possible for you to quit smoking. You would have enjoyed the fact that you felt healthier, and you may have experimented a little to find out which flavours you prefer.

After a while, you might have taken a closer look at the possibilities presented by vaping, and this could have left you wondering whether you should try new hardware. Cloud chasing is definitely one aspect of vaping that you may now be tempted to investigate.

Are huge clouds the way forward for you and if so, what do you need to do next?

Are you sure you really want bigger clouds?

Before you start investing in new equipment and tweaking your vaping setup, you should consider whether cloud chasing is something that is right for you.

If you are tempted to chase clouds, you could be looking to make changes simply because your vaping experience isn't a satisfying one. Maybe you have chosen the wrong nicotine strength or less than ideal flavours. It is advisable to see whether simply changing your flavour or nicotine strength would be elevate your vaping life sufficiently to leave you feeling completely satisfied.

Chasing clouds will mean that you will use more e liquid. You would probably also need to replace your coils more often. As a result, you'll inevitably end up spending significantly more to vape than you do now.

Cloud chasing requires increased airflow, and this produces airier draws. These will feel very different to the tighter draws with throat hits that you experience with mouth to lung (MTL) inhales. MTL draws feel more like the sensation of smoking and so airier DTL draws might not be right for you.

Before rushing into anything, ask yourself what you would like to achieve and whether you are prepared to increase your expenditure on vaping or to change the way you vape.

Perfect your draw

The first thing that you need to practice if you want to achieve bigger clouds when vaping is a direct to lung (DTL) draw. You should draw vapour directly into your lungs rather than holding it in your mouth first as you do with an MTL draw. You need to inhale as deeply as possible to maximise the vapour that you draw into your lungs.

If you feel that you are inhaling as deeply as you can and you are triggering your device's automatic cut-off (puff timer), you will need to change your set-up. This will involve purchasing a more powerful device with adjustable airflow that is compatible with low resistance vape coils. To produce impressive vapour, your coils must heat to high temperatures, and you will need to maximise airflow through them to optimise vapour production.

Choose the right set-up

Seek out a vape kit that features a powerful mod and a sub ohm tank compatible with low resistance coils. If you are chasing huge clouds, you are most likely to achieve great results with a coil that has a resistance of 0.4ohm or less.

Ramp up times are also important. Look for vape tanks compatible with mesh coils. These will have larger heating areas and so will vaporise more e liquid each time you take a puff and will ramp up (heat up) quickly.

Choose the right settings

An advanced vape kit will give you a variety of operating modes to choose from including variable wattage, temperature control and custom curve. You will need to experiment with your modes and settings to discover which combination gives you the best balance of flavour and clouds.

You should also open your airflow as doing this will always increase the vapour that your device delivers. Air flowing over your coils also means that you can achieve massive clouds at lower temperatures than you would otherwise need. This will reduce the risk of burning your wicking.

When e liquid is vaporised, the space above the coil eventually becomes saturated with vapour. You can't then create more vapour unless some of vapour above the coil condenses to become e liquid again. Airflow gives you the cooling effect you need to produce condensation. Indeed, the vapour you inhale is actually an aerosol made up of droplets. In other words, it is condensation. In addition, airflow essentially dilutes the vapour with air to increase its volume.

The hotter your coil gets, the more vapour it will produce. But take care not to choose outputs or temperatures that are outside the appropriate range for your coil. That range will be etched on the coil and printed on its packaging. For instance, if the stated wattage range for a coil is 40-50W, only set your device to deliver an output within that range.

To find your sweet spot:

  • Begin by selecting the maximum airflow setting and an output near the bottom of your coil's range.
  • Take a few puffs.
  • If the vapour doesn't feel too hot and you don't get any dry hits, increase your wattage and take more puffs.
  • When the vapour starts to feel too hot or you experience dry puffs, reduce the wattage to the last setting that worked well.

It's always best to start with lower wattages as this will eliminate the risk of burning your wicking.

Select the appropriate e liquid

Your vaping hardware is only half of the cloud chasing equation. The other half is your e-liquid. If you are looking for bigger clouds, you should use an e-liquid with a high percentage of vegetable glycerine (VG). Being thicker than propylene glycol (PG), an e-liquid high in VG will produce bigger clouds. An e-liquid containing mostly PG will produce relatively small clouds regardless of how powerful your vaping setup may be. Low resistance coils are best suited to e liquids which are at least 70VG.

The Vapekit range features the best e liquid brands and so enables you to choose from thousands of amazing flavours including many that are high in VG.

Conclusions

Cloud chasing is an exciting aspect of vaping. But it isn't the right choice for everyone, and you can certainly enjoy vaping without producing those huge clouds. Flavour and nicotine hits are equally important factors to consider when tailoring your vaping experience.
