The Elf Bar Elfa vs the Elf Bar Mate 500 – 6 Key Comparisons

The Elf Bar Elfa and Elf Bar Mate 500 have emerged as cost-effective and environmentally-friendly alternatives to the Elf Bar 600 disposables.

These kits are reusable and rechargeable, yet still offer vapers much of the same features they’ve come to expect from the standard Elf Bars.

But what are the key differences between them, and why should you opt for one over the other?

We’ve compared them across six key areas to help make your decision that bit easier.

1. Design

Elf Bar Elfa

The Elf Bar Elfa pod kit looks just like the Elf Bar 600.

Elfa Pod Kit

It has a buttonless design and a distinctive matte finish that’s pleasing to the eye. It also has a solid build quality — you’re not getting a cheap plastic device when you buy it.

You’ll be able to carry it in your pocket, too, as it’s light and compact. It has the samesoft-touch material and ergonomic, duck-shaped mouthpiece as the Elf Bar 600.

The only difference between the two is that the Elf Bar Elfa has the letters E L F A emblazoned along the bottom. In our humble opinion, these letters look pretty cool!

This kit is available in six colour options at the time of writing and measures 108x16mm.

Elf Bar Mate 500

As you’ll see from the product imagery, there isn’t a huge amount of difference in design between the Elf Bar Elfa and Elf Bar Mate 500 at first glance.

However, when you look closer, you may spot a few differences. For example:

  • The Elf Bar Mate 500 is smaller in height than the Elf Bar Elfa (104.5mm, or 1.5mm shorter) but wider (18.9mm, or 2.9 mm wider). However, both options are pocket-friendly.
  • The Elf Bar Mate 500 has a different finish, with a military-grade aluminium design.
  • The Elf Bar Mate 500 has a more tapered mouthpiece, as it uses different pods (P1 pods as opposed to the Elfa pods). Therefore, it’smore curved and less squared off than the Elf Bar Elfa.
  • At the time of writing, the Elf Bar Mate 500 is available in two more colour options (eight) than the Elf Bar Elfa.

2. Ease of use

Elf Bar Elfa

The Elf Bar Elfa couldn’t be easier to use.

As we mentioned above, it has a buttonless design, and you don’t have to do much to get it going. All you have to do is click the pre-filled pod cartridge into place on the battery unit and vape — that’s it. You’ll repeat the same steps each time a cartridge runs out, and you replace it with another. It’s that easy — there are no buttons or setting adjustments.

When you need to charge it, you simply plug a USB-C cable into the port, and it should reach full charge in around half an hour as a general rule of thumb.

However, please note that we don’t supply this cable with the kit when you buy it. You’ll need to buy this separately.

Elf Bar Mate 500

This device is just as easy to use as the Elf Bar Elfa — there are no real differences between the two.

Like the Elf Bar Elfa, the Elf Bar Mate 500 is inhale-activated and has no buttons.

To use the Elf Bar Mate 500, grab your pre-filled pod, remove the rubber seals, and push the overhanging red plastic seal at the base into the pod. By doing this, you’re allowing the e liquid to soak into the coil on the inside of the pod.

Wait ten seconds, then insert the pod into the device, and you’re good to go!

3. Throat hit

Elf Bar Elfa

The Elf Bar Elfa pods feature mesh coils, which help to deliver a smoother throat hit.

They also contain 2ml of 20mg salt nicotine e liquid, which provides a much faster satisfaction of your cravings than freebase nicotine.

As such, this kit is ideal for people making the transition from vaping to smoking.

Elf Bar Mate 500

Again, there’s no difference in throat hit between the Elf Bar Mate 500 and the Elf Bar Elfa.

Each of the Elf Bar Mate P1 pre-filled pods that are compatible with the Elf Bar Mate 500 contain 2ml of 20mg salt nicotine e liquid, so will also deliver a smooth throat hit.

4. Flavours

Elf Bar Elfa

If you like choice and variety, you’ll get plenty of this with the Elf Bar Elfa.

Even though it’s only been around a short while, its pods come in 13 different flavour options at the time of writing. These include many of the flavours that Elf Bar users know and love, and are listed below:

As you can see, there are a huge range of flavour profiles to choose from, whether you’re after something conventional or something a bit more quirky. There’s something here to satisfy every palate.

Elf Bar Mate 500

If you thought you got choice and variety with the Elf Bar Elfa, wait until you see the list of flavour options that come with the Elf Bar Mate 500.

The pre-filled P1 Mate liquid pods for the Elf Bar Mate 500 are available in 20 more flavour options compared to the pods that go with the Elf Bar Elfa at the time of writing. This is the biggest distinction between the two devices.

Here’s the complete list of flavour options available with the P1 Mate pods:

You couldn’t wish for a more diverse range of flavours!

5. Pod and battery capacity

Elf Bar Elfa

The Elf Bar Elfa pods are built to last.

Thanks to their 2ml e liquid capacity, you’ll get about 600 puffs per charge out of them before needing to replace them. This amount of puffs will last the average vaper around four days.

In terms of battery capacity, the Elf Bar Elfa kit comes with a rechargeable 500 mAh (milliAmp hour)battery. As such, it lasts as long as the Elf Bar 600 and it can be recharged in around an hour and a half, which is next to no time.

The Elf Bar Mate 500 contains the same pod and battery capacity, so again, there’s no difference between the two in this respect.

6. Cost

Elf Bar Elfa

We sell the Elf Bar Elfa for £7.99 at the time of writing.

Please note, though, that no pods are included with the kit. You need to buy these pods separately, and they’re available on our website for £4.99 each if you buy four or more pods (or £5.99 if you’re only buying one).

Elf Bar Mate 500

We sell the Elf Bar Mate 500 for £7.95 at the time of writing.

As with the Elf Bar Elfa, this price is reflective of the kit itself — it doesn’t include the P1 Mate pods. These are the same price as the Elfa pods — £4.99 each for four or more pods (or £5.99 if you’re only buying one).

Conclusion

As you’ll have gathered from reading this article, there isn’t much to separate these two devices, bar one or two details.

You should get the Elf Bar Mate 500 if you want a wider range of flavour options and want to save more money in the long run.

If you want a vaping device that’s super easy and convenient to use, the Elf Bar Elfa is the slightly better option of the two. It also looks and feels more like the Elf Bar 600 than the Mate 500, so you may want to go for this if you prefer to have the familiarity.

Ultimately, your choice boils down to personal preference. Whichever device you go for, you’re guaranteed a satisfying, premium vaping experience.
